Ladki hui heh Its a girl

Last week a friend of mine who is a doctor told me that  in the hospital where she works, a woman left her baby girl, born only two days before. It caused great  alarm in the hospital. Police was informed, the address which they gave at the time of admission  is also fake. This is not the only case of baby girl, being left like this. They are left in lonely places. Is it not unfortunate that baby girls are discarded in such a shameless manner!
I am not going into the statistics of this cruel and harsh practice.I am only very much moved by this unsocial and weird practice.  It is  a great consolation that the child was not strangulated  At least here the wretched parents showed mercy on the poor creature.
The reason for this evil practice is mainly economical and social.  The society looks down upon a female  child. The religious  practice of favouring the son to perform the last rites of a deceased   parent is in question. Moreover, marriage of a girl child entails lot of money and property which the poor parents can ill afford to spend. The dowry system, which was banned long ago, is still practiced. The poor girl is not treated as a human being  but as an object to be disposed as early as possible.
On the positive side the worth of a girl child is undeniable.Well treated the girl child  can become the darling  of the house. The girl child is always attached to the parents notwithstanding  her marital status, whereas the loyalty of a son depends  on his wife. This is a hard fact of life. Lucky are we that not only our daughter and son in law,but also have  a devoted son and a daughter in law. I am proud to say that ours is a lucky family in all respects and I am not forgetting our  dear grand children.

The forgotten piano

Leslie was playing on this piano for several years. She was deeply in love with it. Whenever visitors came home, she herself
went and sat on it so that no one else touched  the piano. Her younger sister also had a piano, which was her precious possession. But unlike Leslie she allowed every one to play. This habit of sharing her made very popular among friends. On her birthday she got a gift, a latest version of the piano. Now Leslie learnt a big lesson. She now not only  shared her piano but also her other items which were her precious  possessions.

Looking for a maid

Once you decide to appoint a maid, whom you  interviewed, did she tell you about the terms and conditions  of her service?' If  she did not lay down any conditions of her service  let me note down some of their special qualities, which you will come across. by and by.Younger generation is not familiar with the tactics of this genes, which they use to exploit the young and innocent  employers. Maids are now not like olden days when they were obedient, respectful and punctual. They used to comply with any order given by any member of the family. Now see the 'values' and their 'conditions' that they lay down when they are appointed.
1. She will have a weekly off, preferably on a Sunday. You have no reply, but to agree.
2.  She will be on half day  'chutti' to visit  the temple/ church/ mosque of the religion they believe in.
3.  She will daily see her favourite  programme on TV.
4. She will use the telephone, when ever she wants.
(She heard the family discussion that they were using their office telephone and saving the house telephone bill.)
5, Early morning tea,she will not make.
6.Every year her salary must be increased by 10 percent.
7 She will require new clothes every six months
8  She will not work beyond 10 pm.
9.She will  be provided toiletries every month.
10 She must get new dress after every six months.
They are generally so dominating, that you get fed up with them but do not have the 'courage' to oppose them. I have high lighted some of their habits. There may be more demands in their daily life ,which you may have to tolerate.
Through this post my intention is not to degrade this category of workers. They are also human beings who are endowed  with good qualities too and become a part of the family. Even  when they are gone, you remember them as part of your  family.
So wish you  happy times with your maid!!

smile,smile and smile

A smiling face always attracts. Whether you know the person or not, a smile  always attracts smile from another person. The impact of the smile is immediate. Whereas a smile can make a friend instantly, no body likes a glum or a serious face.  smile  is infectious. A person with a morose face is shunned .
There are several benefits of smiling.   Have you ever seen an animal smiling. He is much lower in the the ranking of living beings. People throng around a person who has a witty and  humourous  demeanour.  During elections and other public speeches, a  person who dwells on laughter is much more  successful in collecting  votes for his party. Even if a  speech has less material and more laughter it attracts more listeners.
In a  house where the speakers are happy go lucky, are always smiling and are always more popular. There is no place for gloom. Our smile can change our and other people's fortune. Laughing loudly opens up  our lungs and nose and keeps us healthy. The  person who laughs,  spreads laughter in others.  You must have heard the saying,''If you laugh you are surrounded  by  many, if you cry,  you cry alone''. Robert Frost said,'' If we could'nt laugh, we would all be insane.'  Laughter  is the most priceless commodity which drives away our woes. Even a teacher who keeps smiling in the class is conveys  a positive approach.
I remember a short story which was very often narrated by my father. I  wish to relate it here. There was an old man, called Patt. He was very possessive. He never   parted from his things.
Everyday he counted all his possessions.  One day a boy about ten years. who lived in the neighboured met with an accident and lost his eyes. His mother's shock and sorrow was unbearable. Patt was their neighbour. He could not see the misery of the mother/son. He donated one of his eyes to make the family smile, smile and smile. When people asked him why did he donate his eye.His reply was that the child had a long way to go. I shared my one eye with the small child to see cheer on their lips.

There was complete pandemonium.  My husband pulled  me by my dress and ran out from the  backside staircase.   All the guess were checked. It was later found beneath her undergarments .and felt sorry She gifted the house in my name. Today after fifty years she found and took me from the same staircase.

MAYHEM

A house on fire. It is so scary.    Fire emitting from all sides. No one taking any initiative to  put off the fire. Oh no ,this is not the fire which erupts  from  fire.  The fire burns material objects.  The fire I am  referring to,  is a fun to watch. What is this fire? Is it a bon-fire? No, it is not a bon fire but it is as if the whole town is set on fire. People run feverishly around as if they are participating in a race.
In a  house on the corner of  the road is a daily occurrence.   First  let me introduce the lady of the house. She was a big boss in an office and wants the same authoritative  system . Her husband is a quiet person. He is satisfied  if he gets his morning tea in time. With out tea he is like a roaring lion They have a son, good for nothing. There is a widowed girl, who came back to her parents house. There is no one who is responsible for the running of  the house. To top it all, there is a daily  ritual there was no milk sometime, or no sugar or tea leaves in the house.A small servant boy, woken up harshly is deputed  to borrow  the item from the neighbouring house; There is always a deafening
noise from the house. The neighbour houses also add to this pandemoniom. To top it all loud music of all sorts adds a new flavour  to this hooohullaaaa. No one is concerned about saving elecricity or water.
Then comes the parking of cars! These days many families have two or three cars and quarrels on this issue are very common. Moreover the vehicles take too much  space and prevent smooth movement of traffic. This is a scenario during day time. At night  the  scene is no better, Infact it is worse. People drive  their cars  at high speed and do not use their dim  lights, resulting in threat  to other vehicles.
How is the situation in your city/town?

Harrowing, adjective: acutely distressing.

Imperfect, adjective: not perfect; faulty or incomplete.

Lame, adjective: (of a person or animal) unable to walk normally because of an injury or illness affecting the leg or foot, (of an explanation or excuse) unconvincingly feeble, (of something intended to be entertaining) uninspiring and dull, (of a person) naive or inept, especially socially.

Three friends Suresh, Prem and  Shubh were very close to each other. They were known for their mischief and harrowing acts in the college. The Principal, Dr Sharma was on the look out for their mischievous action and rusticate them from college. The opportunity came earlier than expected. The school  exam coincided with All India  Foot Ball competition. The match was over at 9 0'clock. The school exam was also scheduled  to be over at the same time. The three boys were aware of the  Principal's  weakness for  the game. They thought of a common  reason to narrate  to the Principal. They entered the Principal's office and narrated a lame story of the punctured  wheel of car. The Principal was very clever. He told the boys to appear for a  re exam the next day.The condition was that they will be given only one question and the answer must be correct. Next day the  paper was given. The question was ''which of the tyre was punctured?'''The answer given by the boys was naturally imperfect.

note this story is based on an ancient story.

Black and white.

If.  you happen to read the matrimonial  column of a newspaper on any Sunday. you will find more than half of the boys require  a  fair  good looking and  a  well  educated girl with a good family back ground  as a wife.  Where will the dark and unfair  girls go ?Unless possessed of a high education and well endowed with material  possessions she finds herself in the last ladder of the matrimonial rung  Take any other field  It will not be free from discrimination. A  white complexions  always attracts.
In our society dark people  are conscious of themselves.
A boy goes for an interview. He was very dark. No one sat beside en the result was notified, There was  commotion ,he had cleared. If the relatives, neighbours and society at large accept that dark  skinned people , they will be contributing a lot for  such
 people.
Long age I saw a movie which that a a young couple  about to get married, appeared for IAS examination. The girl was dark . After marriage. the girl was driven away  from home. The girl was strong enough no  to go her her parents. She went to a friend's house for one  night.here after she requested the  Department to post her in some remote area.
After fifteen years, she was declared the most efficient officer. She had to receive the award from the President of the country!!!! Just imagine the wife being rewarded and the husband who discarded her simply because she was dark complexioned. Some people may be anxious to know what happen end to her husband. He married another lady, very fair ad perhaps the only daughter of his boss. But she was suffering from  several ailments, leading a miserable life with her husband.
But was this incident sufficient to change the  society??

Eager, adjective: (of a person) wanting to do or have something very much, (of a person's expression or tone of voice) characterized by keen expectancy or interest.

Frenzy, noun: a state or period of uncontrolled excitement or wild behavior.

Guzzle, verb: eat or drink (something) greedily.

In a small town  Sita and Sutesh were friends. This friendship continued for some time and soon they were eager to marry. After their wedding they visited a hill-station on holiday where their friends had organized a big celebration. Sita was radiant in her finery and everybody's eyes were drawn to her. All the guests were having a gala time dancing to the tunes at the party, and Sutesh was caught up in a frenzy of high spirits. The soiree continued until the early hours of the morning and by this time Sutesh had guzzled so much liquor that he completely lost control of himself. His inappropriate behavior became a nuisance to all.
Young people these days don't care about how much they drink and cause harm to their own bodies.

Children the little angels!

Children are a like small  pearls. They are pure gems who glitter  day and  night. A family is incomplete  without a child. It is the children  who  bloom   in every house hold. The ignorance of the child  is genuine, He/she `does not have the word ''hate'' in their dictionary. Parents get the golden company of these little angels   only for a short period. These days  children are generally not happy to stay in this house.  They  have  dreams  of  their own abode.
My grand  children also had dreams of studying higher studies separately. Their wishes were fulfilled after they settled  abroad and lived a life of satisfaction. Seeing them happy, their parents and grand parents are in seventh heaven. We always wait for their home coming, the grand children living in three different  places, America, Europe and India, The `three of them came  for a short period  had  special food, love from each one of the family, are going back . Be happy my children! Fulfill all your dreams!!
