Treat your children equally

It is generally seen in many families that where as boys are sent to public schools. the girls are sent to Municipal schools. If questioned why this discrimination the reply is that the girl will get married and look after the family. The boys have a greater responsibility. They have to earn and support a family. This sort of  prejudice against the female child by her own family has an adverse effect on the child.
Recently I read an autobiography of a lady who was neglected by her own family. Meena was the only sister of four brothers.  All the four studied in a private school. She was sent to a municipal school. After school she had to help her mother in household  work, The brothers lazed around, saw TV, played cricket and loitered around, She was in the first year of college when she was married off to a business man. She had two children, a boy and a girl. She was determined to ensure that her daughter must be highly educated and achieve a high position in life.
Her ambition was fultilled when her daughter becams an engineer. She married her class mate and was well settled. Her son also married to a highly educated girl. Meena was the happiest person in the world. She spent   time in social work pertaining to downtrodden  women. One day Meena was relaxing, her daughter- in- law came to her. She said   that her husband was ill treating her. He always used abusive language. She informed her that he was not speaking to her for more than a week. Meena was shocked.  In  her anxiety to see that her daughter got good education and was well placed, she failed to give proper attention to her son to make him a good person.

  1. A thought-provoking post, Usha Ma'am. Many forget to educate their sons on respect and daughters how to fight for themselves. It's a tragedy when we see how much emphasis is on academics, ignoring human and spiritual development:)

  2. As Vishal says, Ushaji your post is thought provoking. We always think that education is everything, but actually it's love that shapes a person not the degrees he/she has.

  4. Oh! That's thought provoking. Children must be treated as equals. So important and this happens if one fails to do this.
